Expectations for the Future: Thoughts on Hope and the Human Nature

"Always choose on the side of hope"
~Sage (The False Prince)
I think that people want to hope for the future to be better. I think human nature forces us to hope for better things to come. One show of this I found on an app called Show of Hands. Show of Hands is an app where polls are posted and people answer the polls and read the results. One of the polls was, Which major party do you think is more likely to gain seats in the 2014 Congressional elections? The results were that 74% of all Democrats thought that Democrats were more likely to gain seats. Whereas, 93% of all Republicans thought Republicans were more likely. So Republicans were expecting Republicans to win and vice versa. I think more than proving things about the coming election this poll shows that people tend to hope that what they want to happen will happen. I think that it's in humans nature to hope. Okay... so we covered hope and the human nature, lets look more at expectations for the future. So like the poll showed people expect  what they want to happen to happen. Often instead of expectations being based on facts they're based on hopes. For example, I expected to travel a lot in the future because I want to travel, not because my parents are looking into buying plane tickets (I wish they were). People are driven to expect there dreams (hopes) to come true. In conclusion, the human nature is filled with hope and positive expectations for the future and that's why (In my opinion) one of the most common lies is "It'll be okay" or a similar phrase.
